The little girl gets lost in her books,
giving no thought to the way she looks.
She perches sideways or upside down in her chair,
her arms akimbo, her legs in the air.
Snug in her quiet, cozy spot,
she submerges herself in the twisting plot.
Her friends are the characters on the page.
She watches them live and dream and grow and age.
She sees them struggle and make mistakes.
Other times, they get all the breaks.
Their lives fill hers and become her own.
They are always around. She is never alone.
what a charming poem. I really like this.ReplyDelete
Oh this is precious! That is the way I felt when reading the Betsy-Tacy books!ReplyDelete
I can relate. I read many books as a child. Now I lose myself on the internet instead.ReplyDelete
the joy of reading and escape - you captured it perfectlyReplyDelete
Sandy, Mildred, Linda, and Joanne, thank you. I think many can relate to getting lost in a good book. It is something I did quite often as a little girl. I still do today but not as often as I did then.ReplyDelete
Oh I got lost in a book also as a child. I still do. We had a book mobile that would visit once a week thank goodness because we were miles from town. Love all your poems and stories. Hugs, LJReplyDelete
So true and I can relate to this so much. I love getting lost in them and I never know what's going on around me. lol Have a nice weekend.ReplyDelete
Sounds like you were writing about ME. I still get lost in books darned near every evening, but I don't sit in any weird positions while I do it anymore. That could be dangerous. :)ReplyDelete
Very heartwarming poem :)ReplyDelete

LOVE it. Oh my goodness, I've been that girl too many times in my life. There's nothing like making new friends through a book, eh?ReplyDelete
You have captured well and shared beautifully what it's like to be absorbed in a good book. Well done!ReplyDelete
No better friends that our friends in a book.... Love this one, Connie.ReplyDelete
This was such a fun blast from the past. I loved getting lost in books when I was growing up and wish I had more time to do that now. This is such a poignant and beautifully written poem, Connie!ReplyDelete

Connie, this was great... really great... I used to read so many books and when I was involved in a book, I barely noticed anything around me. It was pretty awesome getting lost in those characters and story lines... awesome poem xoxReplyDelete
