Prepared

Prepared

So the pressure is on.
It's time to make the Thanksgiving meal.
It must be festive, traditional,
delicious, ideal.

The groceries must be bought.
Recipes gathered up.
The table properly set,
with each plate and cup.

But what if the turkey
refuses to thaw?
What if the oven breaks,
and that bird is still raw?

The stuffing is soggy.
The gravy gets spilled.
The potatoes are lumpy.
No plates are filled.

Take a deep breath
and say a prayer.
Be thankful for blessings;
and for family gathered there.

And when you realize
just how lucky you are,
you'll see it  doesn't matter
if dinner is below par.

Call up the pizza shop
on speed dial,
and dinner will arrive
in a little while.

Don't worry about the food.
Don't stand on ceremony.
Rejoice in your blessings,
and make room for pepperoni!

Even though, at first,
it can be hard to see.
Remember, remember,
there's always plan B.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

This is cute as can be! Over the years, I guess we have all experienced a "disaster" of some kind for the Thanksgiving meal! Wishing you and your family a most blessed holiday.

  3. A very appropriate poem for the upcoming holiday, Connie, as so many people get themselves in a frenzy if something doesn't turn out right. I thought of the turkey dinner in the Christmas Vacation film. Did you ever have a Thanksgiving mishap?

  5. Cute poem. The only time I planned a really big Thanksgiving dinner, the door broke on my oven before the turkey was done! Twenty something people were coming. I finished cooking the stupid bird on the wood stove. My daughters still talk about it decades later.

  8. How cute this is, Connie.... AND most of us have experienced one problem or another with our Thanksgiving Dinners through the years. There are times when PIZZA sounds good at a time like this....BUT--as you said, we just need to relax and count our blessings..... Right?????

    Happy Thanksgiving..
    I am thankful for YOU.

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  10. I enjoyed this warm-hearted playful poem. Pizza should become the standard for Thanksgiving - it's much less stressful.

    Have a great week, Connie.

  12. Yes! Absolutely. Always best to have a plan B. We had dinner at our daughter's house, and she and her husband fixed enough food to feed an Army. Problem was, they told everyone we'd eat at three o'clock, but the darned turkey, which they were cooking in a brand new smoker, wasn't ready. So they ended up finished the turkey in the oven, and we ate everything else at about five. Since they also had a huge Honey baked ham, nobody even missed the turkey. The bird was ready before we left to come home, so we were given a doggie bag of turkey to take with us. (It's GOOD, too!)

I hope you had a fantabulous Thanksgiving. Another really nice poem, lady.
