Summertime Tune

Summertime Tune

Singing a summertime tune.
Loving the month of June.
Having some summertime fun.

With popsicles dripping,
flip-flops flipping,
vacation tripping,
and sunset seeking when day is done.

With playground slide slipping,
backyard pool dipping,
croquet mallet gripping,
and getting soaked with a water gun.

With a summer read (bodice-ripping),
lawn mower grass clipping,
lemonade sipping,
and a hot dog on a bun.

With jump rope skipping,
flower bouquet snipping,
puppies nipping,
and watching the horses run.

With golf ball chipping,
canoe tipping,
and clotheslined laundry whipping
out in the midday sun.

Singing a summertime tune.
Loving the month of June.
Having some summertime fun.

  5. I love the images you evoke with this poem, but I also love the nuts-and-bolts of the rhyme scheme you used. Very clever!

  6. Nice imagery... Reminds me of old favorites: "Summertime and the livin' easy..." from Porgy and Bess or "Hot town, summer in the city..." who I think was the Loving Spoonful.

  7. While reading this poem, Connie, I was thinking of a Beach Boys melody too and that's meant as a sincere compliment. Thanks for your comment on our recent family wedding and I am now catching up on blog reading.

  11. Summertime --and the Livin' is EASY!!!!!!! But --it's doggone hot here on the Cumberland Plateau...

I'm having a big family gathering here on July 4th this year --and am thinking about an "American" menu (hot dogs, apple pie, watermelon, etc.)..... Love your poems...

    Hugs,
    Betsy

  12. An appropriately fun-filled poem for June. I love this, and smiled - of course - at "bodice ripping." Nicely done, Connie. Keep savoring all the good stuff.
