Meeting Amelia

Meeting Amelia

It is such a thrill to meet you,
to see the wonder in your bright eyes,
like your Daddy's--soft cornflower blue.

Tiny wisps of red hair escape the hospital hat,
striped in white and blue and pink.
I have a granddaughter...imagine that!

This is a sacred moment for me, to hold you now.
You, cooing and content, wrapped in a blanket like a burrito.
Me, overwhelmed with delight, sighing a whispered, "Wow."

  10. We think nothing can possibly be more magical than the feeling we have when holding our newborn baby in our arms for the first time... and then we hold our new grandchild for the first time. There's nothing like it. Congratulations, dear lady. I'm so happy for you.
