April Fool's Day Hoax

April Fool's Day Hoax

Snow has returned
in an early April Fool's Day hoax.
"Don't we deserve a reprieve?"
We ask the TV weatherman.
We plead. We coax.

But the grass and trees
that were turning green
have become instead
a cold, soft, white scene.

Spring is shy
against winter's hold.
This frozen air
is getting old!

I know the snow
will melt before long,
but until then,
all this white is wrong!

Let's hope this is
winter's last wheezing gasp.
Pray the sun breaks through
winter's clinging grasp.

I suppose
I will love spring
all the more.
When it returns
outside my door.

Like others,
I have a habit of wanting
what I have not,
instead of being grateful
for what I have got.

  4. Your poem speaks for me, too! We missed the snow in southern Indiana but will be in the 20's tonight. Waah! And everything finally bloomed in the past few days. I hope you have a good week, and warmer temps!

  5. SNOW! Oh no. It's pretty but I know you are anxious for spring. I hope the week ahead is filled with many blessings.

  6. that is a surprise. Hope it melts quickly and flowers awaken. We've had a blustery end to March - I'd say it left like a lion, still roaring. Very good poem.

  8. So tired of winter. One year at my school spring had sprung early and then as we were supposed to do a balloon release, it began to snow...on April Fool's Day, and the balloons would not lift off. I figured God had a great sense of humor.

  11. This weather is so crazy. I'm not sure where you are--guessing Northeast or Midwest?--but I'm guessing you're way farther south than me and experiencing some late-season snow. Meanwhile, here in Alaska temperatures neared 50 degrees today and all of our cover is melting. At night I can hear my house raining as more and more sloughs off the roof. So bizarre.

  12. oh my goodness......not a good joke from mother nature at all. One year when our children were very small.......in April......it snowed .......here in dry Texas.....on Good Friday! What a shock for everyone around. My children had not seen snow so thick and white......they played in it until they were almost frozen! LOL

  14. When I first saw the date, I thought that perhaps you had played an April Fool's joke on us, Connie, but it seems Mother Nature played one on your area. Hope it's a fast melting snow.

  15. This makes me feel good because I fully feel the words. End the hoax, I coax. (Love that rhyming pare: hoax and coax).
May you soon see the sun, Connie.
