Seagulls and Crows

Seagulls and Crows

Seagulls swoop down to the waves
and back up again,
soaring against a background
of boundless blue skies,
and celebrating the sea breezes
with their joyous, rhythmic cries.

Crows perch in a palm tree by my window;
complaining, bickering, and gossiping
about the people down below.
The crows' voices grate and scrape
like rusty hinges on an old screen door.

When given a choice,
what will you do,
squabble or soar?

You can hear the crows at the beginning of this short video.

  1. Nice descriptive poem! We have crows which have become quite common at my compost bin. I guess they need feeding just like other birds. :)

Wish I could visit the beach.

  3. I'd like to think I'd soar, but I just got home from work a tad cranky. So I probably sounded like an old crow today. I'll try to soar tomorrow. ha!
    Good poem

  4. Fun poem! But there's no reason you can't do both! In fact, seagulls squabble too.

  7. Now I know where the expression "old crow" came from. Sadly I'm turning into one. but I'll soar again. Beautifully written and thought-provoking, Connie!

  11. No question about it. I'd MUCH rather soar than squabble. (And I'd MUCH rather be at the beach than listening to the rain pelt our roof here at home...)

  12. Love the poem and video ...and oddly enough I love both the crow as well as the gull. Both birds I love to photograph and watch. But your description of rusty hinges on an old screen door - perfect. seems like someone is on vacation and the video makes me want to go to the coast again. looks beautiful there and such white sand. west coast has a tannish color sand.

  13. I like both birds, but my favorite are the pelicans! There's a time to soar, there's a time to squawk. :)

  14. From your title through the final question, you keep outdoing yourself, Connie. You are soaring! I love the contrast and question you pose.

  19. Those beach pictures made me envious. All we have here now is RAIN and more RAIN.....

Hope you are doing okay as we go through this Virus Scare. No Covid 19 cases in our county so far --but we are being very very careful through this Virus scare. We also are not panicking --and definitely not hoarding items/food, etc... People can be nuts at times like this.

    Stay Healthy and Safe!!
    Hugs,
    Betsy
